Glendalough, Co. Wicklow

Our capital may be known as ‘the fair city’ but Dublin’s Doorstep is a delight too.

A vast bay spreads out before the city offering seaside temptations like sailing, swimming, kitesurfing and internationally-renowned links golfing.

Explore a little further inland and you’ll uncover the scenic Wicklow Mountains, an impressive collection of castles and celebrated heritage sites like Newgrange, Glendalough and Monasterboice.

No day on Dublin’s Doorstep should ever be a dull one! As a holiday destination, the counties just outside Dublin tick a lot of boxes. Thanks to an enviable geographic location, fresh-air fiends face a dizzying array of choice.

Kildare: host of the prestigious Ryder Cup and also boasting three of the country’s premier race courses as well as the Irish National Stud, Japanese and St.Fiachra’s Gardens.

Neighbouring Wicklow, known as the Garden of Ireland, contains outstanding scenery of mountains, valleys, lakes and coastlines. Renowned for its walking trails, The Wicklow Way is one of the most famous.

The royal county of Meath has some of the most spectacular attractions in the country including the passage graves at Newgrange, the historic Trim Castle and the famous hills of Tara and Slane.

Louth also has a rich medieval past. The town of Dundalk has connections with the mythical hero Cuchulainn. It is a vibrant shopping town and has an award winning County Museum. Drogheda on the River Boyne, has many fascinating buildings including St. Laurence’s Gate, Milmount Motte and Martello Tower. The heritage town of Carlingford displays its past in King John’s Castle and the interpretative centre.
